I remember as a kid watching shorts and movies with Buster Keaton in them. Another super actor/comedian from the olden days of movies (silents). And no, I am not that old that I was around in the silent film era! Geesh. This was later, like after the World War II.
This famous stunt in the movie was actually built around what went wrong with the original stunt. Keaton intended to leap from one building onto the roof of another building, but he fell short, smashing into the brick wall and falling into a net off-screen. He was injured badly enough to be laid up for three days. But when he saw the film (his camera operators were instructed to always keep filming, no matter what happened), he not only kept the mishap, he built on it, adding the fall through three awnings, the loose downspout that propels him into the firehouse, and the slide down the fire pole. Four days ago, Reddit user SoundCheckBrew turned to the message boards in search of help restoring a weathered newspaper photo of his great-grandparents and his grandfather, taken shortly after the family returned to the U.S. during World War II. A handful of Photoshop-savvy Redditors volunteered to help, and in a post earlier today, SoundCheckBrew was ecstatic:
“This picture looks amazing! I had to take a moment to really take in what you did! … Thank you Reddit and Photoshoppers for restoring my Grandfathers picture! Here he is with the final framed and printed copy! … He was teary eyed.”
